UVBH was formed to work with the homeless veteran population of the Tri State area, providing temporary and permanent residence for US Military veterans and their families.

Veterans also come to Beacon House with physical disabilities, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PSTD), Traumatic Brain Injury, mental health issues, alcohol or drug addiction plus job skill/readiness training.

“Veterans in need always deserve special consideration and especially at this time of the year. You can’t help but think about the veterans who’ve served our country but who find themselves stuck, cold and in need of a helping hand. They were there for us, we have an obligation as citizens of our nation to be there for them,” says John Kennedy, Vice President of Zistos Corporation, Holbrook, NY.

Opened in 1994 by a group of philanthropic Vietnam Veterans, starting with one residence, UVBH today operates and supports 24 locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties, providing services to over 185 men, women and children on any given day.

Along with a safe and structured living environment, the group provides residents with a host of support services including case management, transportation for medical appointments, education and job placement programs, and mental and emotional counseling.  It also connects residents with entitlements.

United Veterans Beacon House in Bay Shore, NYUVBH relies on a combination of grants and donations from people, businesses and organizations on Long Island.  Individual donations help defray a significant portion of group’s operating expenses.

“We’re a growing company in the community and while our donation is just a small part of what is needed, we’re proud to bring recognition of the great work being done by Beacon House everyday, year-round,” says Kennedy.

Kennedy hopes it encourages other donations, especially during this holiday season when a little assistance to restore a person’s health and human dignity can be the greatest gift of all.

“Thanks to John Kennedy of Zistos, and people like him, we’re able to move forward with this vital assistance to veterans in need,” says Frank Amalfitano, President and CEO of UVBH.  “It’s basic community spirit and support like this that means we’re able to improve and expand our services and reach, at a time many veterans are really, really in need of it, and often their families, too.”

Zistos provides video inspection solutions for tactical missions, search & rescue, counter terror & search and industrial inspection efforts.
